RIC Cleaning Routine
Weekly
Wipe down the surface of your dome and thin transparent wire thoroughly with the cloth provided, to remove any dirt or dry wax.
Clean all dirt collected in the sound outlet at the end of your dome by using the brush provided.
If there appears to be any moisture on your hearing aid, please put it into the Dry Kit overnight.
Monthly
Check the whole surface of your hearing aid and give it a thorough clean with moist cloth. Pay attention to the microphones on the hearing aid usually above your program button. Give these openings a gentle clean using a brush to remove any build-up of dirt or dust.
Check the condition of the wax filter. If your filter is looking discoloured or dirty, or if there is wax in it that you cannot brush out, it is time to change the filter.
Your pack of new filters will include a tool to change the filter. Use one end to remove the old filter from the sound outlet and use the other end to carefully push another clean filter into its place.
Brush away any wax from around the dome.
Six Months
If you haven’t already changed the wax filter on your hearing aid, you should do so now. These filters need to be changed at least once in every six months.
Your pack of new filters will include a tool to change the filter. Use one end to remove the old filter from the sound outlet and use the other end to carefully push another clean filter into its place.
Carefully check your domes, checking for tears, hardening or severe discolouring. If you see any of these in your domes please contact your local HearFon hearing centre to arrange a service check, during which your Hearing Aid Audiologist will change your domes.
If your hearing aid has microphone protectors these will need to be changed at least once in every six months as instructed by your Specialist.
BTE Cleaning Routine
Weekly
Wipe down the surface of your dome and thin tube thoroughly with cleaning wipes or with the cloth provided, to remove any dirt or dry wax.
Clean all dirt collected in the sound outlet at the end of your dome by using the brush provided.
If there appears to be any moisture on your hearing aid, please put it into a Dehumidifier Kit overnight.
Check the tubing for wax. If there are any blockages, detach the tubing from the hearing aid where they meet. Then pass the cleaning thread through the tubing and pull out at the other end. Once clean, reattach the tubing to the hearing aid.
Monthly
Wipe down the surface of your mould with soft cloth provided to remove any dirt or dry wax.
Clean all dirt collected in the sound outlet by using the brush provided. The other end of the brush can also be used to pick free any wax that has become stuck in the sound outlet.
If your hearing aid has a small vent hole under the sound outlet, clean this with the brush provided.
If there appears to be any moisture on your hearing aid, please put it into a dry kit.
Check your tubing for moisture droplets. If any are found, remove the tubing from the hearing aid where the two meet. Then use a air pump to clear the moisture before reattaching the tubing to the hearing aid.
Six Months
Carefully check your domes, checking for deterioration such as tears, hardening or severe discolouring. If you see deterioration, please contact your nearest HearFon hearing centre to arrange a 7 star service check.
Similarly check your thin tubes. Make sure there are no splits or kinks in the tubing. Also check for any hardening or severe discolouring. If there are any problems with your tubing contact your nearest HearFon hearing centre to arrange a 7 star service check.
If your hearing aid has microphone protectors these will need to be changed at least once every six months as instructed by your Hearing Aid Audiologist.
Custom Hearing Aid Cleaning Routine
Weekly
Wipe down the surface of your hearing aid with cleaning wipes, or with the cleaning spray and cloth provided to remove any dirt or dry wax.
Clean all dirt collected in the sound outlet by using the brush provided.
If your hearing aid has a small vent hole under the sound outlet, clean this with airspray or the brush provided.
If there appears to be any moisture on your hearing aid, please put it into an dry kit.
Monthly
The microphones on your hearing aid are small openings located above or below your battery tray. There may be one or two microphones. Gently brush these openings with a clean brush to remove any dust or dirt.
Check the condition of the wax filter. If your filter is looking discoloured or dirty, or if there is wax in it; that you cannot brush out, it is time to change the filter. Your pack of new filters will include a tool to change the filter. Use one end to remove the old filter from the sound outlet, and use the other end to carefully push another clean filter into its place.
